“What really drew me in after the initial introductory scenes was when we got to see the creative process for Remi’s films, using a mixture of hand drawings, stop-motion, and VHS wizardry, all of which I found fascinating and entertaining. Lodato demonstrated wonderful creative skill by incorporating all these filming techniques and blending them with convincing, heartfelt interviews. Even the tongue-in-cheek parts of the interviews had an honesty to them that felt endearing.”

“Remi Milligan: Lost Director seems like a mockumentary in the vein of nostalgic cult faves like Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. After all, Remi Milligan the artist, is forgotten, and he is also literally lost. And the short films themselves are rambling, grandiose oddities. Friends (Ferne Romaniuk), family (Francesca Kos and Rene Costa), and ex-girlfriend (Sara Granato) fondly recall his eccentricities and their contributions to his vision as actors, cinematographers, and bizarrely, ‘behind-the-scenes camera operators.’ One talking head is even credited as his personal biographer.”

“Remi Milligan: Lost Director opens like a lo-fi documentary about a forgotten filmmaker, but soon reveals itself to be something cleverer. Writer-director Samuel Lodato blends talking heads, faux archival footage, and scenes from fake B-movies to create a rich, convincing portrait of a man who never actually lived. The result is a mockumentary that is frequently hilarious, often touching, and always committed to its premise.“

“For this is all done without as much as a wink or other acknowledgement to the audience, indicating everything here has been fabricated out of whole cloth, with an attention to detail that can only be applauded. Like all the best mockumentaries, this is played absolutely straight. That attitude goes all the way through to the most ludicrous elements. Which would be Satsuman, a tangerine’s search for his long-lost father, complete with an actual citrus fruit costume.“

“Remi Milligan: Lost Director falls right into our What The F**k category. Yes, what the f**k is this? I always have fun with the WTF film. We’re all familiar with the mockumentary. What I haven’t told you is that Remi is dead, but many, including his friends and family, believe he is alive. Remi’s story is told through first-person interviews, countless hours of footage by a friend who served as his video-biographer from the start, and clips from these truly insane films Remi made.”

“Written and directed by Samuel Lodato, Remi Milligan – Lost Director is a defining moment in the mockumentary genre. We follow the fictitious life and work of film director Remi Milligan (Yoshi Barrigas) though the eyes of his friends, family and colleagues in the years leading up to his mysterious disappearance…”

“Convincingly crafting this unique cinematic tale, Lodato weaves together a tapestry of guerilla short films, “behind the scenes” footage, and talking heads galore to craft this kinda sorta but not really a biopic of sorts.”

“The story of avant-garde indie filmmaker Michele “Remi Milligan” Benedetto (Yoshi Barrigas) is one such tale, a man of–uniquely–creative process whose goal to make his films like HE wants regardless of what anyone else might say leads to both a modicum of success–and his completely baffling disappearance…”

“Celebrating the life as well as the diverse and bizarre works of one Remi Milligan (a maverick film director who just disappeared one day under mysterious circumstances) through a clever combination of interviews, “behind the scenes footage” and a showcase of impressive fictional short films, Remi Milligan: Lost Director is the brilliant story of one of the greatest low-budget film auteurs that never existed…”

“Remi Milligan: Lost Director is a documentary about a filmmaker who is legendary more for his sudden disappearance than his work as a director, a subject most of the subjects that speak are clearly at odds with. Milligan was a filmmaker who just missed two revolutions in modern film – the ability to promote your work via YouTube and similar services and the advent of streaming…”
